The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club, Institutions working on detainees’ Affairs, the Captive Movement in Israeli prisons and liberated detainees mourned the former detainee Farouq Khatib, 30, from Abu Shkaidem/ Ramallah, who martyred yesterday at the Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah, due to a medical crimes committed against him by the IPS before releasing him on December 20, 2023.
The commission and the prisoner’s club said in a joint statement issued today that the martyr Khatib, was sentenced to administrative detention for four months, after few months of releasing him, where he was serving four years of imprisonment. According to his family, they confirmed that Farouq was not suffering from any chronic diseases during his temporary freedom, and they have been shocked by his appearance when he was released from prison, where they did not believe that he got to this serious health condition within four months, as the disease is at an advanced stage.
He was exposed to a series of crimes as well as medical crimes which led to his martyrdom.
He, like thousands of detainees in Israeli prisons, was exposed to brutal attack during his last detention, where the Israeli occupation authorities pursued the crime in order to kill him, by the continuation of detaining him under the administrative detention under the pretext of the existence of a confidential file, in spite of his serious health condition as he suffers from cancer.
During his detention, he was detained at Nafaha prison after being transferred from Ofer prison, then he was transferred to Al-Ramla prison’s clinic, then to Soroka Hospital. The IPS intended to obstruct visiting him by legal teams, who faced many difficulties in following up on detainees cases after the genocide, due to the retaliatory measures imposed by the occupation on detainees.
The commission and the prisoner’s club confirmed that the case of detainee Khatib is not the only case of detainees who were liberated from the Israeli prisons in serious health conditions. Over decades, many patient detainees were martyred after liberation due to the systematic medical crimes committed against them.
In the light of escalating the aggression, systematic crimes, torture and medical crimes, 18 detainees martyred in Israeli prisons. These details are related to detainees whom their martyrdom was announced, while detainees from Gaza Strip are still under the forcible hide, as the Israeli occupation pursued hiding their identities, bearing in mind that the occupation’s media had revealed the martyrdom of tens of Gazan detainees in military camps subordinated to the occupation’s army, without revealing their identities or martyrdom conditions.
The commission and the prisoner’s club held the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of detainee Khatib, and renewed their calls for all human rights organizations to assume their responsibility and break the state of inaction within the unprecedented crimes pursued by the occupation and the constant genocide supported by national powers against our people in Gaza, as well as pursuing the mass aggression against our male and female detainees in Israeli prisons, where the majority of detainees suffer from diseases at varying degrees due to crimes of torture and starvation , as well as constant medical crimes.
