The martyrdom of detainee Walid Daqqa (Abu Milad) after serving 38 years in Israeli prisons

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club announced the martyrdom of detainee Walid Nimer Daqqa, 62, from Western Baqa village in the lands occupied in 1948, who has cancer and detained since 38 years in Israeli prisons, due to a series of medical crimes committed against him deliberately in order to kill him.
Daqqa is one of the most prominent leaders of the Captive Movement in Israeli prisons, and he was detained before signing the Oslo Accord, where the Israeli authorities refused to release him by exchange deals over the past decades.
The Commission and the prisoner’s club stated in a joint report that we mourn the martyrdom of a national leader who spent his life defending his nation, and left a national and intellectual heritage. He faced the policies of torture, assault, deprivation and isolation, in addition to successive medical crimes.
He was supposed to be liberated on March 25, 2023, but the Israeli occupation authorities added two years ti his sentence to be 39 years, in spite of diagnosing him with blood cancer.
His health condition deteriorated many times since last March, due to the constant medical ignorance and moving him to the clinic of Alramla prison, where he lived in difficult conditions.
He was transferred to Jelboa prison and then to Ramla prison, and he was moved to Asaf Harofeh prison many times. He and other detainees faced cruel detention conditions after October 7, as his family was prevented from the visit and could not contact him since then.
Daqqa joined the Palestinian Liberation Organization and he was arrested on March 25, 1986, and sentenced to life imprisonment. At that time, the life sentence was determined to 37 years of imprisonment, which means that he was supposed to be liberated in 24/5/2023, but the court of Beersheba issued a decision to add two years to his sentence under the charge of getting involved in bringing cell phones inside the prison.
