Fares briefs the European vice president envoy on detainees conditions in Israeli prisons

December 6, 2023

The head of the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs, Qaddura Fares, warned of the increasing Israeli fascism against detainees in Israeli prisons, the persistence in using beating and torture that targeted their health conditions and turned their lives into hell.

Fares statements came during a meeting with the European vice president envoy Ms. Maria Fillasco and a group of the European Union, where he briefed them on the systematic crimes committed against Palestinian detainees, which are supported by the terrorist government of Benjamin Netanyaho.

Fares stated that the Israeli prisons have been transformed into centers of physical and psychological torture against detainees, where incursions into detainees rooms and section by Israeli special forces became a daily routine. Detainees are subjected to blackmail, intense beat that leads to bleeding and fractures, and leaving them suffering without receiving any medical assistance.

Fares added “testimonies of liberated detainees exceeded the torture implemented against detainees of Guantanamo Bay detention camps. The troublesome process is that the Israeli soldiers brag about the assaults and they post their videos on social media, amidst a complete silence by human rights groups and organizations “.

Moreover, Fares stated that the Israeli authorities have arrested more than (3600) Palestinians since October 7, in addition to  Gazan detainees that we don’t know anything about, despite the ongoing meetings with ICRC, who promised to give us information about them, but we didn’t receive anything yet.

Fares said that detainees today are deprived of food, water, clothing and covers. They are isolated from the outside world, where the IPS confiscated TVs, radios, electric appliances and kitchen tools. In addition, they are held in their rooms and prevented from going outside to the prison’s yard, and prevented from washing their clothes. Moreover, detainees didn’t receive any medications or treatment, and they get transferred between prisons as a punitive measure.

In conclusion, Fares condemned the attitude of the European Union in supporting Israel and its army that destroyed Gaza Strip and displaced its population. He said that this silence has encouraged Israel to go too far in its crimes, and hoped that the European Union to take real actions and attitudes to achieve humanitarian justice.
