Erekat to give this year’s George Antonius Memorial Lecture in Oxford University

The Board of Directors of the Center of Middle East Studies at Oxford University ,  would like to extend an invitation to Dr Saeb Erekat to give this year’s George Antonius Memorial Lecture. 

The Antonius Lecture, now in its 44th year, is Oxford’s most distinguished annual event in modern Middle Eastern studies. 

The lecture series is named in honour of the late George Antonius, whose magisterial study of the origins of Arab Nationalism, The Arab Awakening (1938) has inspired generations of thinkers and activists.  Past lecturers have included distinguished public servants, scholars and creative artists.  We cannot think of anyone more appropriate to address our community on this occasion than Dr Erekat, given his lifetime of service to the Palestinian cause. 

Were Dr Erekat willing to accept our invitation, we would hope he might be free to speak on Thursday 20 June when the lecture traditionally is held.
