While the world is celebrating Christmas with its spirit of peace and joy, the Grinch decided to steal the spirit of Christmas from the people of Palestine. Indeed, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not only steal Christmas but also the land and resources for the benefit of the illegal settlement expansion. Netanyahu is exploiting the Palestinian land and resources for his early election campaign.
Today the 26th of December, the Israeli occupation authorities announced the approval of thousands of illegal settlement units in the occupied State of Palestine. According to the announcement, 2500 settlement units and two industrial settlement zones in the illegal settlements of Avnei Heretz and Beitar Illit will be constructed. This settlement expansion will be shoved in the heart of the Palestinian land.
This undoubtedly is part of Israel’s bank of violations to international law. It is a clear violation of the United Nation Security Council resolution 2334 among others. Therefore, it is of utmost urgency and importance that the ICC starts accelerating the process of investigating Israeli crimes. We trust that the ICC Prosecutor Mrs Fatou Bensouda will take this issue seriously and not to delay the investigation further.
The world has to act quickly before it is too late. Israel’s disregard and contempt to international law and legitimacy have been encouraged by the lack of accountability and serious international responsibility. The time has come for the world to end its double standards and to act with courage and fairness towards the people of Palestine.
